ABSTRACT.
This paper describes the work done to develop a climatic grid point dataset for Cuba with a resolution of 15 minutes latitude/longitude. The climate variables considered are maximum, minimum and mean temperatures, diurnal temperature range and rainfall. Using the Cresman interpolation method, the spatial and temporal components were interpolated independently and afterward combined to obtain actual values of each variable. The results shown that this dataset describes properly both the temperature and rainfall patterns during 1961-1990. This dataset represent an important contribution for climate applications, at least by the following reasons: (i) it has enough resolution to describe the more important spatial variations; (ii) it has good temporal extension to understand some of the main features of climate variations in Cuba; (iii) it was developed from a large number of stations values which were widely used in prior climate studies.
